Mechel OAO, one of the leading Russian mining and metals companies, reports supplying rebar, structural shapes and hardware rolls for construction of Power of Siberia and Altai gas pipelines.
Mechel's products are used to produce ferroconcrete weights manufactured by Berezovsky Structural Construction Plant for laying major mainline pipelines of national importance — Power of Siberia and Altai.
The ferroconcrete weights are installed on pipes up to 1,420mm in diameter and are used to balance oil and gas pipelines when crossing over swamps, rivers and other water barriers, not allowing the pipes to float up to the surface.
Most of the steel products supplied were produced at Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant.
Mechel is an international mining and steel company which employs 67,000 people. Its products are marketed in Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa. Mechel unites producers of coal, iron ore concentrate, steel, rolled products, ferroalloys, heat and electric power. All of its enterprises work in a single production chain, from raw materials to high value-added products.
