Project Overview

In 2000, Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN), a major steel producer in Brazil, in partnership with SMS Demag, Pro-Eco, and Ross/ CBTI, and Siemens, installed a cold rolling complex in the southern region of the country, near Curitiba. Installation cost of the plant was US$325 million.

Project Details

The project encompasses several sections including:

-    Push Pull Pickling Line (PPPL) with an installed capacity of 550,000 tons per year
-    Reversing Cold Mill (RCM) with a capacity of 550,000 tons per year
-    A 330,000 tons per year Continuous Galvanizing Line (CGL)
-    A Color Coating Line (CCL) with a capacity of 140,000 tons per year

Siemens provided 230 kV main substation AC and auxiliary drives for all plant machines, manufacturing execution system and complete automation levels 0, 1 and 2, installation engineering and materials electrical installation services for the whole plant, and complete plant infrastructure including lighting for buildings, E-rooms, roads, air conditioning and ventilation, fire detection, plant telephone system, CCTV, intercom, etc.  

Project Initiation

The project is divided into two phases. Phase – I includes CGL and CCL, and phase – II includes PPPL and RCM. Phase – I was completed in 2003, and Phase – II was initiated in December 2004
