NLMK Europe

NLMK Europe is the European branch of the NLMK Group including 6 production sites and an extensive network focusing on transforming and distributing steel products to end users. It boasts of a long history and extensive experience in hot rolling, cold rolling, and coating steel. It offers to its customers the benefits and security of an efficient vertically integrated system, with an extensive range of products and services for small and large businesses alike.

In order to optimize its market approach, NLMK Europe operates with 2 business units. The BU Plate, including the hot rolling mills of NLMK Clabecq, NLMK DanSteel A/S and NLMK Verona, produces a wide range of steel heavy plates, from very thin to very thick plates and to the widest. Thanks to its technological advance and its long experience, it offers numerous steel qualities, from the most common to the most specialized:

  • Pressure Vessels meet the requirements of a variety of relevant national and international standards. These steel grades are characterized by yield strengths from minimum 235 N/mm² to minimum 460 N/mm² and by good weldability.
  • Line Pipe Steels are premium plates thermo mechanically rolled plates in a thickness range from 6,35 up to 50,00 mm with stringent mechanical properties.
  • Quenched and Tempered steels are abrasion resistant and high yield strength steels. Quend is extra high strength structural steel produced as quenched and tempered. It complies with the requirements corresponding to the EN 10025-6 standard, where impact toughness is guaranteed at -40° C.

The high synergy between the 3 European plants has resulted in a high ability to react promptly to al the demands of the customers.

About 67% of the global crude steel total output is through the Basic Oxygen Furnace Steelmaking process and is recognized as the dominant steelmaking technology. In U.S alone the usage figure is 54% and slowly declining due primarily to the advent of the “Greenfield” electric arc furnace (EAF) flat-rolled mills. However, the method and technology is still in demand and being adapted by other regions.

Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) steel making or Basic Oxygen Furnace Steelmaking (BOS) or Linz-Donawitz-Verfahren steelmaking or the oxygen converter process is a method in which both molten pig iron and steel scrap are converted into steel with the oxidizing action of oxygen blown into the melt under a basic slag.
