Chinese Firm Breaks Foreign Monopoly with 17-Meter Ultra-High-Pressure Steel Pipes for Petrochemical Applications

(NHIG) has successfully developed and begun mass production of 17-meter-long ultra-high-pressure steel pipes. Senior engineer Xu Ruibing optimized processing techniques and cooling times, focusing on precise temperature control. This innovation ensured billets reached the required length without defects, yielding the first compliant ultra-long billet.

Post-forging, the solid billets required drilling from both ends to create a uniform, smooth, straight circular channel, followed by surface grinding. Concentricity deviation tolerance for a 17-meter pipe is thinner than a fingernail, demanding extreme precision. NHIG engineered a rigid deep hole drilling machine system with specialized drill pipes featuring super-hard bits and geometric designs for enhanced deep-hole efficiency. Shock absorption and stability countered gravity-induced deflections. Complementing this, a custom deep hole honing machine used varied grinding stones to polish the interior to mirror-like smoothness, ready for service.
