Clugston’s celebrate a century with British Steel!
17 September 2024
One of our valued UK hauliers, Clugston Distribution, are celebrating a 100 year milestone in their association with Scunthorpe steelworks.
The relationship began in 1924 when North Lincolnshire Iron Co. Ltd. invited J.G. Clugston Ltd. to work one of their North Lincoln slag banks to create some employment in the town during the economic slump. The invitation was taken up and represented the first involvement of J.G. Clugston Ltd in the production of blast furnace slag which was marketed through Contract and Works Supply Co. and Mr. Harold Wills.
Since this early involvement the relationship has developed to accommodate the many changes in how the steelworks operate. Clugston have evolved along with the site and adapted their services to remain a familiar sight across the Scunthorpe site.
Clugston celebrated their own 100 years of being in business in 2022, so perhaps even more impressive is the fact that there has been a partnership between them and the steel works for almost all the time they have been in business.
British Steel is a European steel manufacturer that supplies long steel products globally. British Steel was formed in 1967 as the British Steel Corporation (BSC) after the nationalization of UK steel companies. In 1988, it was privatized as British Steel plc. The current British Steel company was formed in 2016 when Greybull Capital acquired the long products division of Tata Steel Europe.
In 2020, Jingye Group, a Chinese company that specializes in iron and steel manufacturing, acquired British Steel. We are delighted to have achieved this impressive milestone with them and look forward to continuing the relationship for many more years to come.
