Hydro, a company specialising in aluminium and renewable energy, has announced plans to invest NOK 200 million in a new sow casting line at Husnes Aluminium Plant.

The new sow caster will provide the capability to produce sow ingots during periods of reduced demand for the plant's primary products.

They are committed to investing in the future of our Norwegian smelters, which form a vital part of Hydro’s strategy to lead the green aluminium transition. By adding sow ingots to Husnes' product portfolio, we can better navigate market fluctuations," the company stated.

This advanced and highly automated sow caster will have an annual capacity of 100,000 tonnes. Construction is planned to commence in 2025, subject to the final approval, with completion targeted for the first quarter of 2026.
