China's large steel firms recorded a total profit of 8.74 billion yuan ($1.31 billion) in January-May, the China Iron and Steel Industry Association said on Wednesday.

The industry body predicted that iron ore prices were unlikely to see large rises as they would be curbed by a glut in the steel and iron ore markets.
