Indian Government to certify on Re-rolled steel for construction of vessels, inland barges

Re-rolled steel would be certified for use in construction of inland barges, river sea vessels and port and harbour crafts, government said today.

The use of re-rolled steel will help in bringing down the cost of constructions of barges, river sea vessels and port and harbour crafts, an official statement said.

"Ministry of Shipping has decided that re-rolled steel obtained from re-cycling yards/ship breaking units, after ascertaining its sourcing and processing, would be certified for use in construction of inland barges, river sea vessels (RSV Types 1 & 2) and port and harbour crafts," it said.

The prescribed procedure for certification and usage of re-rolled steel for shipbuilding purpose is now available on the website of the Shipping Ministry, it added.
