6 July 2017

Production of crude steel at JSW SteelBSE -0.31 % rose by 1% during the first quarter of the year, at 3.91 million tonnes, against 3.87 million tonnes for the same period last year.

While production of flat rolled products increased by 1%, production of long rolled products declined by 2% compared to last year.

In an earlier announcement, the steelmaker has forecasted its crude steel production to grow by 4.4% to 16.5 MT during 2017-18 while demand is expected to grow on the back of rising infrastructure spends, supported by the government's commitment to give preference to domestic iron and steel for its procurement.

The company had produced 15.8 million tonnes in 2016, out of a capacity of 18 million tonnes.
