New industry AGCOR Steel set for grand opening

20 April 2015

After ramping up operations a few months ago, new manufacturer AGCOR Steel is preparing to formally celebrate its grand opening next week.

The company is a metal roofing and steel building component manufacturer located at 152 County Road 1297 in the Vinemont community. AGCOR handles manufacturing, distribution and sales.

Open house is set for 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22. The company has invited the Chamber of Commerce, local dignitaries and local contractors to the event. Open house will feature a metal building giveaway, door prizes and lunch provided by Luna’s BBQ.

The business venture, run by co-owners Zac Smith and Scott Seawright, was formally announced in October 2014. Smith said they actually started production in January, but have been so busy with existing orders they delayed the formal grand opening to allow time to staff up and meet existing demand.

“We’ve really just been so busy we haven't wanted to create a whole lot of attention,” he said. “We had to get our employee base up to support the local poultry industry. We’re just now really trying to start to grow.”

Smith noted business has been steady thanks to Alabama’s massive poultry and chicken house industry, along with roof repairs brought on by recent inclement weather and hail storms.

“It definitely helps that Cullman County, and Alabama, have a huge poultry base,” he said. “A lot of companies like Tyson and Pilgrims are releasing chicken houses to be built.”

AGCOR Steel has already grown to include nine employees, and officials hope to slowly expand the company to employ 15-25 people by 2020.
