Steel mill ArcelorMittal invests in new production unit in Romania

17 February 2015

Steel manufacturing company ArcelorMittal Galati has decided to invest in a new production line for pre-dyed items, which will become functional in mid-2016.

It will produce about 100,000 tons per year and will supply the domestic market, according to the company.

Imports currently dominate the local market of pre-dyed products, but the domestic production is taking on.

“The investment shows ArcelorMittal’s commitment to keep investing in Romania. While the Galati plant has recorded operational losses in the last five year, the ArcelorMittal Group has injected about EUR 200 million since the onset of the crisis,” said Bruno Ribo, general manager of ArcelorMittal Galati.

The Galati steel mill was acquired from the Romanian government in 2001.
