Introduction:

Jindal Stainless is investing $150 million to construct a new wet milling plant at its Jajpur unit in Odisha. The project, developed in partnership with Harsco Environmental, aims to double the company’s slag processing capacity and further its circular production initiatives.

Features:

Jindal Stainless has joined hands with Harsco Environmental, a global provider of environmental solutions for the metals industry, under a 15-year partnership to build and operate the new plant. This collaboration builds on their existing relationship and reflects a shared focus on advancing sustainable and circular operations. The plant is expected to recover valuable metal from slag over its operating period, contributing to efficient resource use.

In FY25, Jindal Stainless achieved a reduction of around 14% in its carbon footprint through various decarbonisation measures. Key initiatives include setting up India’s first green hydrogen plant for stainless steel production and installing the largest captive solar energy plant within a single industrial campus in Odisha. These efforts mark significant progress in the company’s sustainability journey.

The new plant will support expanded production activities and help the company meet its long-term circularity goals by recovering metal from industrial waste and conserving natural resources. Additionally, the project will generate around 140 new employment opportunities in the region.
