Introduction:
Novelis Inc., a global leader in sustainable aluminum solutions and the foremost authority in aluminum rolling and recycling, has announced a $90 million investment to enhance recycling capacity for used beverage cans (UBCs) at its Latchford, UK facility.
Features:
This investment represents a significant milestone in our ambitious plan to enhance our recycling capabilities. It highlights our unwavering dedication to sustainability as we advance the transformation of the aluminum industry towards complete circularity, leading the market with innovative, high-recycled, and low-carbon aluminum solutions.
The investment will fund the construction of a new dross house, three additional bag houses, and the installation of cutting-edge technologies for shredding, sorting, de-coating, and melting. These upgrades will allow the plant to handle larger volumes and a broader range of aluminum scrap while improving operational efficiency. This expansion is expected to reduce CO2e emissions by over 350,000 tonnes annually for Novelis Europe.
This project solidifies our position as the largest aluminum recycler in the UK. The enhancements are slated to begin commissioning in December 2026, and once operational, the facility will be capable of recycling 100% of UBCs collected under the future UK deposit return scheme. This will foster a local, fully circular system and eliminate the need for scrap exports from the UK.
