AIM is delighted to announce the 9th European Coke and Ironmaking Congress (ECIC), which will be held in Bardolino, Italy, from October 16-18, 2024.

ECIC 2024 will showcase the latest advancements in coke making, sintering, pelletizing, biomass pyrolysis, and ironmaking processes, including blast furnaces, direct reduction, and carbon-based smelting.

The 2050 goal of carbon neutrality and the steel industry’s intensive efforts to achieve it will significantly impact technologies for iron ore reduction. Given the shortage of iron ores suitable for direct reduction by gas and for melting in electric arc furnaces, it is crucial to propose new technologies and devices that can ensure carbon neutrality, even for coal-based routes.

This congress will focus on technologies that enhance the efficiency of existing processes, implement devices that prevent net greenhouse gas emissions, and explore new routes utilizing biomasses with intrinsically neutral net emissions.
