22 October 2016

ArcelorMittal will continue to invest in the production of steel in the Galati plant, after investing EUR 400 million from date to present, Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal said in a letter addressed to the plant’s employees.

Lakshmi Mittal is the Chairman and CEO of ArcelorMittal, one of the biggest integrated steel producers in the world.

“ArcelorMittal remains committed to Galati and Romania. One of the main advantages of being part of a global company is to have size and scope, which means that the know-how of our units worldwide can be brought to Galati,” Mittal also wrote, reports local Agerpres.

He bought the Sidex Galati steel plant from the Romanian state in 2001. Since then, ArcelorMittal has invested in modernizing some production facilities in Galati but also close some production lines and dismissed people.

The group has four production units in Romania, in Galati, Roman, Iasi, and Hunedoara.
