Crystal Steel Fabricators To Open Eastern Shore Plant

13 October 2016

A Delaware steel fabricator said Wednesday it plans to open a new manufacturing plant in Caroline County, bringing on 126 people in the next two years.

Crystal Steel Fabricators, a family-owned business that started in 1992, purchased a former ES Steel building in the Frank Adams Industrial Park in Federalsburg last month for $1.3 million, according to land records. The facility will be the company's first in Maryland. It also has locations in Pennsylvania, Tennessee and the Philippines.

The company, which has worked on projects that include the MGM Resort Casino at National Harbor, expects to invest more than $4 million in the plant, including $2 million in property acquisition and $2 million on equipment, according to the Maryland Department of Commerce.

The state provided a $315,000 loan that can be waived if Crystal Steel makes those investments and employs at least 126 people full-time through 2021. County and local governments also provided a 10 percent match of the state's funding and the firm is eligible for other tax credits.

The company expects to hire people for positions including, CNC machine operators and welders.

"We are always excited to provide people with great career opportunities, and many of our employees have been with us for 10 years or more," said Emad Mohamed, executive vice president at Crystal Steel, in a statement. "We expect strong growth, which will provide folks in Federalsburg with the chance to move up and become leaders."
