H2 Green Steel collaborates with Volvo Group for supply of near zero emissions steel

15 September 2023

As the adoption of electrified solutions in commercial vehicles grows to reduce emissions during product use, the environmental impact of supply networks and production becomes increasingly significant. Steel, being a primary input material for manufacturing trucks, buses, and construction machinery, plays a pivotal role in Volvo Group's journey toward decarbonization. Therefore, transitioning to sustainable, green steel is a crucial component of Volvo Group's sustainability efforts.

Andrea Fuder, Chief Purchasing Officer of Volvo Group, emphasizes the importance of collaborations in reducing emissions and achieving the goal of net zero. Steel is a major contributor to the environmental footprint of their products, and partnering with both established and emerging players to develop decarbonized materials is essential to advance their sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions.

Volvo Group has entered into a long-term supply agreement for green steel sourced from H2 Green Steel's new plant in Boden, Northern Sweden. Production at this facility is scheduled to commence by the end of 2025, with deliveries to Volvo Group set to begin in mid-2026.

Henrik Henriksson, CEO of H2 Green Steel, notes that the commercial vehicle industry has actively driven the demand for green steel, indicating strong market interest. When a prominent player like Volvo Group, known for pioneering sustainable change, places an order, it underscores their confidence in both H2 Green Steel and its sustainable product.
