India's Prime Minister Modi dedicates to nation Rs 12,000-crore project at Rourkela Steel Plant

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today dedicated to the nation an expansion and modernisation project worth Rs 12,000 crore at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) here.

Modi happens to be the second Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to visit the plant, one of the five integrated plants of public sector steel giant SAIL.

Prime Minister Modi also saw the functioning of the new plate mill that has been installed as part of the Rs 12,000 crore modernisation and expansion programme.

Under the modernisation and expansion project completed at RSP, its capacity has been raised from 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 4.5 MTPA.

Modi was accompanied by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and senior officials of SAIL to the RSP premises.

After his visit to the steel plant that lasted about 30 minutes, the Prime Minister attended a meeting where Odisha Governor S C Jamir, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Steel Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan were among those present.
