Construction of a new steel mill in Ba is expected to create up to 100 new jobs.

Dayal Group of Companies Executive Director Jay Dayal says they are investing $22 million into the new venture.

He says local steel products will be done here in Fiji based on international standards.“We have been experiencing a boost in the construction industry in Fiji and basically to address the demands of our locals and also growing needs in the Pacific region, we have decided to embark upon this project. Last year when the Minister for Economy announced that Ba has been included in the tax free region so that basically gave us that importance to decide that we should embark upon the project."

The new project will consist of a steel rolling mill, automated wire mesh production and roofing division.Acting Prime Minister and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will officiate at the Ground Breaking of the new project in Yalalevu Ba this afternoon.
