Steel companies need minimum import price, debt recast
14 January 2016
The Indian steel industry is in urgent need of minimum import price and debt restructuring, Jindal Steel & Power's chief executive Ravi Uppal has said.
The steel industry has made representations to various government departments, including the steel, finance and commerce ministries, seeking a minimum price on imports to protect local firms from cheap imports from China and Korea, he said here on Thursday.
Uppal said the steel industry has also demanded 5/25 debt restructuring on the lines of that offered to power generation firms.
