Innovative door technology increases safety with lower weight

For automakers, safety is paramount. Yet they must of course balance this essential attribute with factors such as aesthetics and fuel-efficiency.

ArcelorMittal works closely with manufacturers to help them achieve this balance. Recently, our collaboration with Honda R&D Americas led to ground-breaking door ring technology for the 2019 Acura RDX.

This new structure provides a 50% increase in the use of high-strength materials, protecting occupants from impacts in all directions – in a vehicle that features a panoramic sunroof. Despite the increased strength, body-in-white weight is reduced by 19kg/42lbs over the previous model.
