Machadodorp works opened in 1972 as a Low Carbon Ferro Chrome producer with two 24MVA SiCr Furnaces. By 2005 after several upgrades and modifications Machadodorp works had 4 operating furnaces, a metal recovery plant and a pelletising plant. During 2010, one of the furnaces were converted from Charge Chrome to Ferro Manganese and subsequently a further two furnaces were successfully converted. One Charge Chrome furnace has been idled since 2012.
