STAINLESS STEEL PIPES
Stainless steel pipes are strong, durable and have a high resistance to corrosion. This makes them the obvious choice for applications in which water and/or gases need to be transported. Their strength offers good resistance against internal and external pressure, and they are ideal for use in situations where longitudinal stresses or complicated bending are likely. They also offer good resistance to vibration and shock.
Stainless steel pipes are commonly used for instrumentation, heat exchangers, digesters, fluid piping, evaporators, LP/HP heaters, car parts and surface condensers.
Grade 304 stainless steel is a popular choice for piping because it offers high chemical and corrosion resistance. However, in situations where temperatures are likely to range between 400 and 800 degrees C, 304L is a better option because of its lower carbon content, meaning it can be subjected to higher temperature applications such as welding.
Plumbing is one of the main industries making use of stainless steel pipes on a large scale, and there are several reasons for this:
Efficient - smaller diameter pipes can be used than with other materials – such as pvc – without sacrificing mass flow rate. This makes them an economical choice.
Low Corrosion – stainless steel remains rust free for many years, even when constantly exposed to water. Unlike many other materials, stainless steel doesn’t need a lining or coating, as metal contamination, or leaching, into the water is virtually nonexistent. There is also no problem with interior wall abrasion or sediment build up.
Recyclable – stainless steel is 100% recyclable and can be melted down and re-used almost indefinitely.
Strong – stainless steel pipes are highly resistant to damage from tree roots, human error and extreme weather.
Durable – stainless steel pipes will not weather and still look like new years after they’ve been installed. They require less support than pvc pipes, as they don’t sag.
Steelmor stocks a full range of SA/A312 welded and seamless 304/L and 316/L stainless steel pipes. Welded pipes range from ½” to 24” in schedule 10s and 40s, and seamless pipes range from ½” to 16” in 10s , 40s and 80s. Larger welded pipes can be manufactured to A358 class 1-5 and A778 in sizes 12”. Visit our website to view our full range.
