Introduction:
Tata Steel has awarded international technology group ANDRITZ an order to deliver an acid regeneration plant for its steel production facility at Port Talbot Works, Wales, UK.
Features:
The plant will regenerate up to 6,340 l/h of waste acid, maximising the reuse of spent acid in the pickling process and reducing waste generation. It is designed to operate efficiently at the current pickling capacity of 1,200,000 metric tons per year and the future capacity of 1,800,000 mtpy.
This development eliminates the need to import large quantities of acid and export spent liquids, marking a significant step in decarbonising Tata Steel’s pickling operations.
ANDRITZ’s state-of-the-art exhaust cleaning technology ensures emissions remain well below regulatory limits. The integrated ECOmode function delivers substantial energy savings, particularly following the planned capacity expansion, supporting Tata Steel’s sustainability and efficiency objectives.
With advanced process control, a high level of automation, and modern cyber security measures, the plant is engineered for safe, stable, and continuous operation.
Commissioning is scheduled for late 2027.
