Introduction:
Blastr Green Steel (Blastr) has announced a new strategic investor in its latest financing round to collaborate on advanced water systems for its flagship ultra-low CO₂ steel plant in Finland.
Features:
Along with the investment, Ecolab has started designing the water management system and plans to later build and operate it at Blastr’s 2.5-million-tonnes-per-annum (MTPA) steel plant in Inkoo.
Ecolab is a global leader in water, hygiene, and infection prevention solutions and services, operating in more than 170 countries.
Its Nalco Water business provides sustainable water solutions to steel companies and other industries worldwide. These solutions are designed to reduce water usage, increase the reuse of process water, support wastewater recycling, and minimise the discharge of treated effluent.
Both companies will work together to reduce seawater intake, seawater discharge, and heat load to the sea, with potential reductions estimated at up to 85–90%. Additional improvements will also be explored through innovative stormwater integration and the use of municipal wastewater.
