Dakotaland History
On August 31, 2015, Westland Manufacturing and JMS Precision merged their two organizations to operate under one new company, Dakotaland Manufacturing.
With both companies located in Eastern South Dakota, the new organization has brought together proven areas of expertise as one respected resource for all machining, fabrication and finishing services. As Dakotaland Manufacturing, the company continues to strengthen their ability to serve as a manufacturing partner to their customer base by expanding the values and services provided.
Matt Erfman, General Manager, commented, “When we were evaluating this merger, it became evident that putting these two companies together would have a profound impact for our stakeholders. Not only are we able to offer more services and be a better supplier to our customers, but as a larger organization we have the resources to be an industry leading employer for our employees.”
Westland Manufacturing, located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota was incorporated January 1, 1996. Over the years, Westland grew its metal fabrication capabilities to include laser, brake press, punch, welding, powder coat, and wet paint finishes.
JMS Precision, located in Watertown, South Dakota, was founded in 1977 with a focus on precision metal machining. Their capabilities include turning centers, milling machines, multi spindle screw machines, wet paint finishes and robotic welders. Just prior to the merge, JMS Precision built a facility to manage fabrication work in addition to its precision metal machining.
Bringing these expert companies together establishes a leader in the region for both metal fabrication and machining. “The combined strengths reinforce the company’s mission and intent to be a valuable manufacturing partner to its customers with a focus on continuous improvement, while contributing to the community and creating an attractive return for investors. This is accomplished by utilizing state of the art equipment, and by developing involved employees with rewarding opportunities.”
