AboutShure Manufacturing Corporation

It Started In 1910…

Shure Manufacturing historic photoShure dates back to 1910 when Richard C. Richardson and a partner had an architectural sheet metal workshop in St. Louis, Missouri. A decade later, Richard’s son Joseph A. Richardson — known by most simply as Joe — joined them as a sheet metal craftsmen. Joe thrived in the industry and became a registered professional engineer — and an industry leader.

In the early 1930’s, Joe joined Anheuser-Busch where he worked on the fabrication of metal ice cream cabinets and beer dispensing boxes. Always ready for a new challenge, Joe and a friend leased a Texaco service station in 1938 as a sideline business. That business taught Joe about the automotive repair industry and the importance of merchandising in a business, especially in an often dirty service industry such as automotive repair.

Shure USA War EffortsIn December 1941, Joe returned to his roots and joined with Samuel J. Shure in St. Louis to start a metal working shop. As the United States’ involvement in World War II began, they focused on war-related products such as airplane parts, fire extinguishers, and stove cabinets. After the war, Joe combined his automotive and war-time product experience to assist another St. Louis company to fulfill a contract for General Motors. As a result, Joe and Samuel Shure began manufacturing high-quality, enamel-finished workbenches, cabinets, merchandise displays, and desks for General Motors dealer service centers.

Joe and Samuel saw the fruits of their labors as other companies came to them for similar products. Shell Oil, Texaco, Conoco, Firestone, Chrysler, and others turned to Shure to supply their retail sales spaces and shops with productive and on-brand merchandising furniture fixtures and cabinetry.

And the tradition continues. Shure Manufacturing Corporation is a third-generation, family-owned and operated company. We pride ourselves on continuing a legacy built on providing a hands-on customer service experience, one of the company’s hallmark.

Shure supported and continues to support independent automotive and equipment distributors as well as national account programs to best serve its markets.
