Of all the technologies applied at Metalex, EDM (electrical discharge machining) is likely the least familiar to most customers, but for the right application it serves as a crucial process that allows our team to create innovative manufacturing solutions for highly complex components for aerospace, consumer goods, and other research and development applications that aren’t possible with other methods.
Metalex’s NADCAP accredited Wire and Sinker EDM technology is capable of consistently holding recast layers as low as 0.0002", enabling us to push the limits of EDM technology to optimize the manufacturing process, reducing costs and throughput time for production applications. And for the most demanding aerospace applications, Metalex has experience developing processes that ensure recast removal.
RAM / Sinker EDM
Our multi-axis sinker EDM capabilities include simultaneous B and C axes for full 5-axis motion and are equipped with the latest generator technology for high material-removal rates in hard metals such as titanium and Inconel. Using precision machined electrodes made from graphite or copper alloy, this technology is capable of consistently holding recast layers as low as 0.0004"-0.0002” while generating complex geometries.
Wire EDM
Our wire EDM capabilities include conventional and submerged 5-axis wire cuts on parts of up to 23.6" inches tall, with 10"+ inch upper head travel for very large taper cuts.
