RACKS

Racks are a great alternative in cases where a bulk container or pallet is not the best fit. They are a great solution when you need to handle awkward, large or finish sensitive product or assemblies.  A parts rack provides product protection to make sure the parts arrive line side, undamaged, and in the proper orientation to keep manufacturing lines running efficiently.

If model changes are part of your process, racks can be configured to accommodate those changes or new models by utilizing replaceable dunnage or stanchions. This can eliminate the need to purchase entirely new racks and allow great flexibility in your process.

CUSTOM MATERIAL HANDLING RACKS

For more information on the terminology used in manufacturing and an overview of different types of units available, go to Containers 101.

Items to consider when researching a new rack:

  • What are the dimensions needed for this rack?  Specify usable or overall dim.  (length, width, height)?
  • What is the load capacity (depending on rack style)?
  • How are the racks being moved around internally (Forklift, pushed manually, towed, on cart)?
  • Do you prefer 2 way or 4-way fork access?
  • Do these racks need to be stackable?
  • How do you store loaded and empty racks (indoors/outdoors, heat or cold exposure may affect choice of dunnage)?
  • Can you provide a part drawing or actual sample for part fit up?
  • Will you be using these in house or trucking them over the road (need to consider maximizing cube of truck)?
  • Do you have a preferred supplier for dunnage (bag, foam, urethane- maybe the tooling preexisting?)
  • Do you need tongues, hitches, and or casters?
  • Do you need runners/will this be used on a conveyor (two way or four)?
  • Do you need label plates or placards (size, location, and number)?
