It is a trough that runs around the perimeter of a roof and collects rainwater runoff from the roof into downpipes which divert water away from your home or building and its foundation. If you do not have gutters or the gutters are removed, damaged or obstructed, that water can damage the wood on your roof fascia, and erode the foundation of a building or landscaping around the property below the roof line.
