Introduction:
Alleima plans to invest in Advanced Equipment to Enhance Power Quality and Energy Efficiency at Sandviken Industrial Park in Sweden.
Features:
Alleima is actively working to cut carbon dioxide emissions by increasing the use of fossil-free fuels in heat treatment processes, enhancing heat recovery systems to warm facilities, and boosting the share of fossil-free electricity. Ongoing investments will further expand energy capacity to support future electrification efforts.
The shift toward renewable energy sources is affecting the stability of the electricity grid. At Sandviken Industrial Park, the electric arc furnace's melting process creates rapid fluctuations in voltage and current, known as flickering, which impacts both power quality and energy efficiency in production.
To address this, a STATCOM (static compensator) from Hitachi Energy is being installed to reduce flickering, improve energy efficiency, and enhance power quality across Sandviken Industrial Park.
"This upgrade benefits the entire Sandviken Industrial Park. Many companies here are looking to expand their production and pursue a more sustainable future. Now, everyone can continue on this path," says Ulrika Silver, Site Manager for Alleima Sandviken.
The STATCOM facility is expected to be fully operational by late summer 2026.
