SMS group looks back on a history of more than 150 years. From a small forging company and supplier to local industry, it has developed into a global technology company that has had a significant impact on the development of the metals industries. Crucial to this success story was the early orientation towards global markets, the focus on technology and the adherence to the values as a family-owned company.
Our mission
All over the world, SMS group stands for future-oriented technology and outstanding service in plant construction and mechanical engineering for the metals industry. We use our 150 years of experience and our unique expertise in metallurgy, industrial processes, and digitalization to create new perspectives for our industry through continuous innovation – also beyond our core business. We are the right partner for challenging projects and consistently harness new potential for our customers throughout the entire life cycle of their plant and equipment.
In doing so, we lay the foundation for aligning value creation, sustainability, and responsibility – and we work with our partners to fulfill our role as a pioneer on the road to a sustainable and carbon-neutral metals industry. As a global player with German roots and a family of over 14,000 employees, we take our responsibility for our industry and for society as a whole seriously.
28 countries and 6 regions
SMS group has always been a truly international company. Right from the very beginning, we have opened branches and subsidiaries in the main markets. Today, we are active in 28 countries representing more than 80 percent of global steel production.
To be closer to our customers, we have implemented a regional setup for sales and project execution, creating new market opportunities and driving growth based on a lean setup. Our six regions Americas, Europe, Russia/CIS, China, Italy/Middle East/Africa, and India/Asia Pacific team up with our worldwide CoEs (Center of Excellence) for Products and for Services as well as with the CoEs for Implementation and Supply Chain to make your project a success.
Our Code of Conduct
The excellent reputation of our group of companies as a supplier of high quality products and services in the fields of metallurgical plant engineering as well as automation systems is an important factor in competition. An essential foundation of the trust placed in our company by the customers, suppliers and the public is our respect for and adherence to legal and statutory provisions as well as company-internal rules and regulations (Compliance). Appropriate actions and conduct of every employee are the precondition for this.
The Code of Conduct specifies general requirements which shall provide standards and orientation for our daily work and thus contribute to strengthening our company's reputation. The Code of Conduct is valid worldwide and binding for all employees of the SMS group.
